The Dictionary of Newfoundland
English defines a Dory
as: A small flat bottomed boat with flaring sides and a sharp bow and
stern, providing both stability in the water and easy stowage in stacks on
deck.
We love Grand Banks Dory Boats. In fact, we
love everything about the Dory boat; the way they look, the way the dory
sits in the water and the reaction you get when you see our Cape dory for
the first time. We are the Banker Dory, and we make what we feel is
the worlds best built dory. Our dories are all hand crafted from the bottom
up, and carefully constructed from white pine, juniper, and oak all held
firmly together with stainless steel screws. We then paint your dory a
traditional dory buff yellow with ship's green trim. The finished product is
solid, sturdy and beautiful.
A Dory makes an excellent row boat and is built
on a generous flare. Our dory boats are dry and stable, especially when loaded. As per
tradition, a Newfoundland Dory is narrower in the bottom aft than it is forward. This
makes the dory draw more water aft and track better. The bottoms are flat with a two inch
flare fore and aft.
Take a look around here at the Banker Dory
website, and let us know what you think. We would love to build a dory for you whether for
a pleasure craft, a lifeboat or simply a treasure of an era gone bye. Your dory can be
ready in short order and can be shipped to any Canadian destination. Please contact us
today.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but our U.S.
customers will be required to cross the border into Canada to pick up their dory. For
